3/29/11 - Nathan's Suprise Gifts

Whenever Nathan and I go outside to play, he likes to give me little gifts.  The most popular gift items are flowers, little red berries, and ripped in half ivy leaves. It's just the sweetest thing.  Every time he brings me one of these gifts it reminds me of that primary song we used to sing in church when I was a child:

1. I often go walking in meadows of clover,
And I gather armfuls of blossoms of blue.
I gather the blossoms the whole meadow over;
Dear mother, all flowers remind me of you.

2. O mother, I give you my love with each flower
To give forth sweet fragrance a whole lifetime through;
For if I love blossoms and meadows and walking,
I learn how to love them, dear mother, from you.

Thanks Nathan!

  1. Tissues at hand and in use -- I appreciated the warning. He has been bringing you these gifts from nature for a very long time. He and I took many walks together when he was very little and he always wanted to bring you something -- a stick, a rock, a flower. You have been on his mind and in his heart always. You'll forgive me if I imagine he is looking up at me and handing me that lovely purple flower.

  2. precious Nathan. I miss our walks, too. Our time when you were in Africa were so special to me. Such a focused, never-to-be-repeated experience of childhood innocence and exploration and leisure shared. A privilege I will never, ever forget. There were flower then, too, and bugs, leaves, sticks, nuts, berries and stones; all were treasures as precious as rubies to me. The summer days were long and warm and rhythmic in the routines of what to look forward to and enjoy in the right now. It was a gift of the highest order. He is a gift for which I eternally thank you both.
    Love always,
    Mom (Grandma) Adams
